2024 BounDless Retreat Volunteer Opportunites

The Boundless Retreat is the largest event that we produce during the year.  In addition to our volunteer Organization Team, it takes the support and efforts of a team of nearly 50 volunteers to bring the Retreat to life and create an extraordinary experience for all attendees. 

For the 2024 Boundless Retreat we are actively seeking volunteers to support the retreat in the following areas:

• Activities Support
• A/V Support
• Care & Conduct Support
  
• Dining Room Support
• Dungeon Monitor (DM training & experience required)
• Greeters Support
• Hospitality Support
• Standby Medical (Medical training and experience required)
• Strike Crews
• Volunteer Coordination

In exchange for a minimum of 6 volunteer hours over the weekend, we offer a discounted Volunteer Admission ticket for $375. Volunteer Admission includes access to all of the benefits of the Boundless Retreat, including:

• General admission camping (attendees are responsible for their own camping gear)
• Eight fully catered meals for the weekend
• Two fully equipped dungeon play spaces, and all of the nature you need to create your own adventures

Apply to volunteer at the 2024 Boundless Retreat by submitting our volunteer interest form (below) and our volunteer coordinators will reach out to you.  All volunteers must complete a volunteer application, vetting process, and pre-Retreat online orientation.  If selected, you will be provided the promotion code to access the Volunteer Admission tickets during registration.

Retreat Volunteer Position Descriptions

 Activities Support (Hrs TBD)

• Assist with coordinating logistics and setup for camper-led activities
• Ensure activities begin and end on time
• Assist with promoting and creating excitement around activities via word-of-mouth, announcements, etc.

Requirements:

• Enjoys meeting and talking with community members
• Extremely organized with ability to prioritize and coach others around organizing and prioritizing

A/V Support (hrs TBD)

• Assist with setup and strike theatrical lighting and audio equipment.
• Assist with running sound and video equipment for activities and troubleshoot as needed.

Requirements:

• Understanding of theatrical lighting principals and safety standards helpful
• Physical dexterity to maneuver in tight quarters and climb up and down a ladder.
• Grace under pressure

Care & Conduct (6 hrs on-call)

Under the supervision of the Conduct Lead,

• Provide emotional support for campers who need a “warmline” or who have experienced a potential consent violation
• Document incidents and response as necessary, and communicate with the Conduct Lead about any cases

Requirements:

• Mental health or crisis intervention experience preferred
• Empathetic with good active listening skills

Dining Room Support

Prep/Clean-up (1.5 hrs):

• Assist catering staff by setting out plates, utensils, napkins, cups, mugs, etc.
  After meal, assist catering staff by bringing any used dishes to the kitchen, wiping off tables, and sweeping the floor.

Midnight Grilled Cheese Maker (3.0 hrs on Saturday 8/3, 10p-1a)

• Assist Food Lead with making and serving gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches

Requirements:

• Reliable, friendly and helpful demeanor.
• For Midnight Grilled Cheese– knife skills, food prep experience, and comfort working in tight quarters preferred

Dungeon Monitor – DM training & experience required (2.5 hrs)

• Ensure dungeon participants follow established Boundless safety and best practice guidelines
• Ensure equipment is in good order; alert Dungeon Lead if not easily repairable
• Alert Hospitality team if safer sex supplies and sheets need re-stocking
• Alert On-Call Medical and/or Care & Conduct team members via walkie in event of medical or mental health issue, or consent violation

Requirements:

• Previous DM training and experience required, prior approval from Dungeon Lead

Greeters (3 hrs on Friday 8/2 )

Check-in Greeter:

• Check-in arriving campers, check for negative COVID test
• Ensure completion of required waivers
• Explain and distribute consent and photography bracelets
• Direct campers to their camping spots or cabins/rooms

Parking Greeter:

• Manage RV/Vehicle camping arrivals and direct arriving vehicles to pre-assigned spots

Requirements:

• Friendly, welcoming, grace under pressure. Parking Greeters should have mobility to escort vehicles to assigned spots

Hospitality Team (3 hrs)

• Patrol camp, keep an eye out for and pick up MOOP
• Orient new attendees to campground, communicate camper needs to the appropriate department via walkie
• Restock safer sex supplies and sheets
• Refill snacks behind Heart Lodge
• Assist with setting up and breaking down activity space as needed

Requirements:

• Friendly and welcoming demeanor, problem-solving skills, ability to ambulate around campground

Standby Medical (12 hrs on-call)

• Provide basic first aid as needed
• In event of medical emergency, provide basic medical care, triage, and alert 911

Requirements:

• Medical background required, prior approval from Medical Lead

Strike Team (3 hrs on Monday 8/5, 8-11a)

• Break down dungeon furniture, lighting, and equipment in all play spaces and load into trailer
• Break down and load rental chairs into trailer
• Support other strike needs as requested

Requirements:

• Must be able to move around the retreat grounds, ambulate to and from yurt independently
• Must be able to lift 25-35 lbs.

Volunteers Coordination 

• As part of Volunteers team, assist with managing on-site volunteers, including volunteer check-in and ensuring volunteers report for shifts
• Assist with recruiting ad-hoc volunteers as needed
